Your Quick Preview: Belmont At Florida Gulf Coast Today

In Game Posts on February 11, 2012 at 4:47 pm

Belmont dominated Florida Gulf Coast the first time we played them, 95-53.  It was January 16th, and we had an overall record of 11-6.  We had just dropped our home match-up to Lipscomb a few weeks prior, and everyone was wondering about the true identity of this Belmont team that everyone had such high hopes of early in the season.

Belmont shot 54% from the field, and made almost half of our three point attempts that night, 14.  Tacos were had by all.  JJ, Ian, and Kerron all posted double-digit points and Hanlen had 9 assists.  It was one of the good games.  A good feeling all-around.

Belmont landed in Fort Myers yesterday and will face the Eagles today for “Part 2” at 4:15 CST.

Let’s learn a little bit about the Eagles.

  • FGCU has about 12,000 students
  • Founded in 1991
  • They have a 760 acre campus, with 400 of those acres dedicated as a nature preserve
  • Average ACT score from 2011?  21.9
  • This is their mascot, Azul

Feel pretty knowledgeable about FGCU now?  Great.  Let’s learn about an interesting player.

FGCU’s leading scorer in our last game at 11 points was 6-9 Freshman Forward Filip Cvjeticanin.  Let’s just call him Fil.

Fil is the son of two-time Olympic silver-medalist Danko Cvjeticanin who also worked as an international scout for a few NBA teams.  But I don’t need to tell you that, you already knew it.  Filip has basketball in his blood y’all-  silver basketball, in fact.  Can’t watch out for Fil too much tomorrow… I guess.

Though the last game we played, Belmont won by dominating force; it is important to remember that the Eagles are 4th in the A-Sun.  They have a .500 overall record, and will be looking to avenge a tough loss today at home.

That about sums up our preview of today’s match-up.  Tune into the Bruin Sports Network to check out the game.
